Archive for the ‘Other’ Category

In CRM 2013 we have business rules defined for each entity.

If we want a global view of all business rules in our system however, it’s not obvious where to find these.

If we pull up an Advanced Find, we can query Processes where Category = PBL to pull up a list of all business rules in our system.

This will include the status and entity it’s on.

While this is great for listing all your business rules, if you try and open one from here you will receive an error.

You can activate and deactivate, just not open.

If you need to edit or create any, you will still need to go through the solution and entity.

While testing some logic I noticed a method to ‘enable’ fields that are set as read only through the form.

When a field is set as read only, you would expect that a user can never enter a value (without using JavaScript or devtools to enable them).

Here’s what I did:

  1. Open the record
  2. Deactivate the record
  3. Activate the record
  4. Change any disabled fields which are now editable
  5. Refresh the form and the values will be saved and read only again

This is with CRM 2013 rollup 2.

6.04.10, 7.04.10, 8.04.10

I’m going to do this all once because it’s been busy this week, despite only being 4 days long.

Tuesday: xRM User Group in Auckland, and I had to do all the workflow emails and name labels beforehand.

Wednesday: Found out we had to do a speech on Thursday for Toastmasters, so I wrote that today, and I was grammarian at Toastmasters Today. My word of the day was Defenestrate, which means to throw out of a window.

Thursday: Did the Toastmasters Speckathon today, it went well. Also uploaded the photos and interviews from Tuesday to the website.

Where to start… being the day before Good Friday, we had a morning Easter Egg hunt around the office, I found 6 eggs of about 40. After the hunt, we all shifted computers again, this time Nathan moved into the room with Gayan, and David moved into the room with Megan. Simon, Laura, and I are the only ones still in the Interns area. Then without telling us why, Laura left the internship… so it’s now just me and Simon left in the interns area. I picked up Lauras jobs of managing the xRM website, and magnetism blog, and I have to get everything ready for the xRM usergroup next Tuesday, and since we’ve got a long weekend, this is the last day to get things done before the event. I hope there’s time for everything.
It’s a lot to happen at once, especially on April Fools…

Had toastmasters today, didn’t have to do tabletopics, but I’m grammarian next week. Did some more work on VPCs and BigFrog etc, and updated my blog for the magnetism website. There’s still a few things I need to adjust on my blog before it goes up, but it’s almost ready.

I wrote my blog for the Magnetism website today, I did it about how to check what version of CRM you’re using, and what rollup you’re currently on. It’s roughly 420 words, and Mark said they had to be 500… but it’s like 2 pages long already with pictures, so I’ll send it to Mark to get some feedback, and to see if it’s ok. Also had a live webcast at lunch. Easter soon… 4 day weekend on Friday 🙂 I think Megans going to do a easter egg hunt on Thursday… Exciting!

Today we had a meeting about the Survey Project that we’re all going to be doing for the next 2 months, Nathan is Project Manager, David the Graphic Designer, David and Laura are doing web design, Laura is doing Marketing, Simon is in charge of HTML, working on HTML will be Simon, Nathan and myself, Simon is in charge of Surestep, and I am in charge of C#, working on C# will be Simon, Nathan and myself.

I made headway into the CRM Spell check, $10 per user to get it, reasonable price for what you’re getting.
